Substitute Teaching

Clark County schools rely on professional and caring substitute teachers every day. Become a vital part of our education community as a substitute teacher!

If you enjoy working with students, have a passion for education and are looking for flexible employment opportunities to fit your schedule, substitute teaching is perfect for you. Our schools need you in our classrooms!

By completing the substitute teaching process at the Clark County ESC, you will become eligible to substitute at nine Clark County school districts. The Clark County ESC employs substitute teachers and aides for Clark-Shawnee, Greenon, Northeastern, Northwestern, Southeastern, Tecumseh, Springfield-Clark CTC, and the Global Impact STEM Academy. Or you can choose to only substitute in one district - it's up to you!

Substitutes must have the following items on file at the Clark County ESC Board Office:

  • Drivers License

  • Social Security Card

  • BCI/FBI Background Check

  • Transcripts

  • Completed Payroll Packet

Returning Subs

Returning substitutes should update their sub file every year.

If your substitute teaching license is expired, you will need to log into your OH ID PORTAL and renew.

BACHELORS DEGREE SUBSTITUTES

Thank you for your interest in Substitute Teaching! All new subs must complete the initial packet to become an eligible substitute.

STEP ONE – Packet Completion

The following items must be submitted along with the completed substitute teaching packet:

  • Driver's License

  • Social Security Card

  • College Transcripts

  • Substitute Teaching License

  • BCI/FBI Background Check

    • If you do not have a BCI/FBI background check, please contact our board office to schedule your appointment. We can be reached at 937-325-7671.This will be a total of $60 ($30 for BCI and $30 for FBI). We accept exact cash, check, money order, debit and credit. Background checks are conducted at our Allium Court location.



Substitutes Aides do not require a bachelors degree.


STEP TWOOH ID Portal

For step two, you will need to create an OH ID account. You can do this by clicking HERE. When it asks you for an organization to sign for your license, please utilize our IRN which is 046227. Please contact Scott Webb at 937-505-1367 if you have any issues with your OH ID Portal set up. If you have an active teaching license, you do not need to apply for a substitute teaching license. The Clark County ESC will need a copy of your teaching license on file for Board Approval.

STEP FOUR - Clark County ESC Board Approval

Once you have completed steps 1-3, you will be put on the Agenda for Board Approval.
