Clark County schools rely on professional and caring substitute teachers every day. Become a vital part of our education community as a substitute teacher!
If you enjoy working with students, have a passion for education and are looking for flexible employment opportunities to fit your schedule, substitute teaching is perfect for you. Our schools need you in our classrooms!
By completing the substitute teaching process at the Clark County ESC, you will become eligible to substitute at nine Clark County school districts. The Clark County ESC employs substitute teachers and aides for Clark-Shawnee, Greenon, Northeastern, Northwestern, Southeastern, Tecumseh, Springfield-Clark CTC, and the Global Impact STEM Academy. Or you can choose to only substitute in one district - it's up to you!

New Substitutes
The following items are required in order to become an approved substitute:
- New Substitute Packet
- Substitute Teaching License
- BCI/FBI Background Check
- Copy of Driver's License
- Copy of Social Security Card
- Bachelor's Degree Transcripts
(only needed if applying to be a bachelor's degree substitute)
Returning Substitutes
- Returning Substitute Packet
- BCI/FBI Background Check
- Substitute Teaching License
- Banking Information
Contact the main office (937-325-7671) to ensure these documents are current.
How to Apply for a Substitute Teaching License
- Create an account or login to the OHID Portal
- Make sure the CORE app is on your OHID Portal - if not, download it through the OHID Portal App Store
- If you have never had a sub license before - you will apply for a NEW CREDENTIAL. If you have a previous expire license - you will apply to RENEW A CREDENTIAL.

If you have an active teaching license, you do not need to apply for a substitute teaching license.

The Clark County ESC will need a copy of your teaching license on file for Board Approval.

Individuals who have obtained a bachelor's degree can apply for a 1 or 5 year Substitute Teaching License.

Individuals who do not hold a post-secondary degree can apply for a 1-Year Temporary Non-Bachelor's Substitute Teaching License.
