Mervin Britton Scholarship
For Clark County Graduates of:
Greenon High School
Kenton Ridge High school
Northeastern High School
Northwestern High School
Shawnee High School
Southeastern High School
Tecumseh High School
Mr. Mervin Britton, long time educator for thirty-three years in Clark County, has
established a trust through Security National Bank (Now Park National Bank) for scholarships
benefiting Clark County High School students. Each county high school will have the opportunity to
submit applications of qualified candidates to the Clark County Educational Service Center during
the spring of each year.
Mr. Britton came to New Carlisle Local, now Tecumseh Local, in 1945 to teach math at New Carlisle
High School. After teaching many years, Mr. Britton became a school counselor at Tecumseh High
School. In 1961, he came to the Clark County Board of Education, now the Clark County Educational
Service Center, as Pupil Personnel and attendance officer. Mr. Britton retired from the ESC in
June 1974.
The applicant must be accepted for enrollment in a four-year college or university to receive
formal training in teaching or related areas, such as speech and hearing therapy, etc.
Park National Bank will send a scholarship check to the student’s college or university. The
scholarship is renewable for three succeeding years if the student remains eligible for such a
scholarship.

In 2024 we will award up to 11 $2,500 renewable scholarships!
Basic Requirements
To qualify for the scholarship, high school students must:
Rank in the upper one third of their high school class;
High school grade point average of 2.75 or higher;
Have an ACT score of 22 or higher or SAT score of 1000 or higher; and
Enrolled full time (12 or more credit hours) in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning.
Application Deadline
The application, including recommendations, transcripts, and other attachments must be received by the county office no later than April 5, 2024.
