By completing the substitute teaching process at the Clark County ESC, you will become eligible to substitute at nine Clark County school districts. The Clark County ESC employs substitute teachers and aides for Clark-Shawnee, Greenon, Northeastern, Northwestern, Southeastern, Tecumseh, Springfield-Clark CTC, and the Global Impact STEM Academy. Or you can choose to only substitute in one district - it's up to you!

(Each district's pay schedule is different. Please contact the district in which you have subbed to gather information on how you will be paid.)
Steps to Become a New Substitute
- Complete the Substitute Packet for the ESC
- Get your BCI/FBI background check completed
- Apply for your Teaching License through OH ID Portal (This is separate from the sub packet for the ESC)
All steps must be completed before the Board can approve you as a substitute.
Bachelor's Degree Substitutes
Apply FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR!
Individuals who have obtained a bachelor's degree can apply for a 1 or 5 year Substitute Teaching License. You must provide the following items in order to become an approved substitute:

BCI/FBI Background Check
If you do not have a BCI/FBI background check, you can schedule an appointment by clicking HERE. This will be a total of $60 ($30 for BCI and $30 for FBI). We accept exact cash, check, money order, debit and credit. Background checks are conducted at our Allium Court location.

Non-Bachelor's Degree Substitutes

Individuals who do not hold a post-secondary degree can apply for a 1-Year Temporary Non-Bachelor's Substitute Teaching License. You must provide the following items in order to be an approved substitute:

Apply for your Substitute Teaching License
When it asks you for an organization to sign for your license, please utilize our IRN which is 046227.
Please contact Scott Webb at 937-505-1367 if you have any issues with your OH ID Portal set up.
If you have an active teaching license, you do not need to apply for a substitute teaching license.
The Clark County ESC will need a copy of your teaching license on file for Board Approval.
Board Approval
You must have all of the required documentation submitted to the Clark County ESC Board Office in order to be approved by the Board. Once approved, you will receive an email from ReadySub with account information on how to log in.

Returning Substitute Teachers

Returning substitutes should update their substitute teaching file at the beginning of every school year. It is important to ensure that the following items are up to date in your file:
